Useful insights for Polestar drivers.

Your Polestar records every journey, but the JourneyLog app lives on the car's infotainment screen and there is no companion phone app. Journey Logster takes the CSV that app exports and turns it into monthly overviews, reports and charging estimates — in your browser, on your device.

Everything is built from one file: the journey-log CSV your car can export. The guide walks you through getting it — it takes a couple of minutes and you only learn it once.

Privacy

No user account. You don't need to log on, provide your email address, phone number, or anything about yourself.
Your data stays with you. Your trips are a sensitive piece of information: they tell where you live, where you work, who you visit, and when you normally arrive. This data needs to be safe. When you open your trips data in Journey Logster, no data is transferred to anyone. It stays completely on your device or computer.
No sharing with third parties. Journey Logster does not share anything with third party services. There is no tracking or advertising. Even the little maps are not downloaded from the internet, where they might reveal details about you — they are generated directly on your device.
Sync your devices securely, if you decide to do so. If you decide to use a second device, your data is stored in a way that only you can see it. It is end-to-end encrypted: the journeylogster.com server cannot access or process it. The encrypted data is stored in Europe.
No app store. You can use Journey Logster in your browser without any installation. It will remember your data nevertheless. On mobile devices, you can install Journey Logster to your home screen and it will work just like any app — but without an app store.

Your devices

Syncing between devices is convenient so you can access your data from your computer and smartphone, or share it with your partner. It is also a way to transfer your trips from one device to another, for example when you have a new phone.

Adding a new device

Go to "Add another device", and select "Show a code". To add a smartphone, you simply scan the QR code.

To add a computer, copy the key to the clipboard and securely transfer it to that computer — for example, by sending an email or WhatsApp message to yourself. Open Journey Logster on the computer, hit "Add another device", and select "I already have Journey Logster". Then paste the code there.

Managing your devices

You can stop syncing to other devices. Any newly added trips or other changes will no longer be available there. However, the data that is already on the other devices will not be deleted — you will have to do this individually.

To delete your data from a device, and stop all other devices from syncing, use "Delete all my data". Two caveats:

This cannot be undone. There is no copy. To start again, you'll need a full export from your Polestar.
The data that is on other devices will still be there.

Install on your phone

On Android phones and iPhones, Journey Logster can be installed to the home screen and work like an app. You hit the Install button and follow the instructions. There is no need to go to an app store for this. On iPhones, if you used the QR code to sync the phone, there is an extra copy/paste step. This is because of the way that Apple has decided to do things.

The mechanism used here is called a Progressive Web Application (PWA).

A personal note

When I picked up my new Polestar 2, I was somewhat disappointed that Polestar does not integrate with any third party service. They do not give you access to your data, like other EV makers such as Volkswagen, Tesla or Hyundai/Kia do. Journey Logster gives you a nice second-best option based on Polestar's JourneyLog app. I made it for myself, and then I realized others might like it too.

Journey Logster is a private project of mine. It is free to use and ad-free, and I plan to keep it like that. It's built around privacy so that I don't have to worry about your data. The source code is not available publicly, and I do not accept Pull Requests. If you want to collaborate, please get in touch personally.
